Please read this about choosing the right domain name.

What are domain names, and why are they used? This question has been asked by many people curious about online culture. Basically, a domain name is the online address of a particular website. It is supposed to be designed so as to make a particular website stand out from the others; something to give it individuality on the internet and gain the attention desired by the owner. If the address of a website is website.com/index, the domain name is website.com. A domain name can be purchased at several places, including GoDaddy.com, and hosting sites such as HostGator.com can provide a place to put the website. But while it's a relatively simple procedure to get a domain name, finding the right one can make or break what you are trying to accomplish.

1. Stuffing ten words into one space will only overwhelm potential visitors and they won't bother with your site. Choose a name that is short and easy to remember, but accordant to who you are and what you do. If your business name is Matt Smith and Company, pick something such as mattsmith.com. Three or four words should be your absolute limit.

2. Do research on key words and phrases that relate to your company. Think about what you might type into a search engine if you were looking for information on the subject your website will specialize in; this is also known as SEO, or search engine optimization. If your goal is to provide resources on cookie recipes, you could try cookierecipes.com or cookieideas.com. There are a number of SEO help applications you can use, but many of them cost money, so keep that in mind. If you use SEO, you could get a lot of extra traffic.

3. Choosing something that will only offend your customers will ensure you lose business. Make sure that the name sounds professional. Additionally, avoid anything that could potentially and unintentionally spell out something questionable. For example, asexfilm.com could be read as "a sex film" as opposed to your company name, Asex Film. You can prevent this by separating the words with dashes; underscores are not a good idea, nor do they appear attractive.

4. The right domain name will let people know if you are local, or if you want to be accessible all over the country or world. Something like michigancars.com implies that you operate only in Michigan. However, carsusa.com will give you a broader interest.

Last 5 reasons you need a domain to the right so you do not copy them like that in front of one another to make sure that what you want is not to become the next first.

How to register and select a domain with GoDaddy.

So you have a website address that you want to promote, but you've ran into a problem. Either it's too hard to remember, or it isn't usable with certain websites. The solution to your problem is to buy a domain name.

There are many sites that offer domain names for you to buy: 1and1.com, One.com, Register.com, or my recommended favorite, GoDaddy.com. GoDaddy is one of the most popular web hosting sites (you may recognize Danica Patrick as the Go Daddy girl) and has great prices: just $6.99 per year for your own domain name (This price is a special offer and I don't know how long it will last).

Here is a list of steps to take in order to get your own domain name with forwarding:

1) Go to GoDaddy.com

2) Near the top of the homepage there is a green bar with different categories listed. Click on the "Domains" category and you will be taken to a new page.

3) Here will be where you enter your domain name to see if it is available. The choice of a ".com" web domain is already chosen for you, and I recommend using a.com because you're trying to make this web address easy to remember, and.com is the easiest domain to remember. Now enter your domain name choice into the box that has an arrow pointing to it, saying "Start your domain name search here!". When you have finished entering your domain name (it could be anything you want, but I suggest using something that pertains to website), click "Search". You will be brought to a new page.

4) 1 of 2 things will happen, it will be available, or it won't be.

*If your domain name isn't available, it will tell you and offer you a box to enter a new domain name in. Keep trying until you get one that you like.

*If it is available, and you want to keep that domain name, click the "Add" button next to where it says that your name is available. A box will pop us with your domain name in it, you can exit out of this box. Then, you can add more names on this page, or by doing another search in the box a little lower down on the page. If that is the only name you want, click the "Continue to Registration" button just to the right and above where the "Add" button was. You will probably get an offer for a deal on other names, you can just click, "No Thanks".

5) To register you will most likely have to create an account, unless you already have one. If you have an account already, you can just log in, otherwise, fill out the required information, and click "Continue".

6) At the checkout page, fill in all of your billing information, and make sure that your order is correct. Continue by clicking "Checkout Now".

7) You will be brought a a "Thank You For Your Order" confirmation page, letting you know that your order was successful. You will also receive a sales confirmation e-mail and support e-mail. From this page you can print out your receipt and log into your account. Your receipt will include your customer number, order number, login name and login password.

8) Your sales confirmation e-mail will have similar information to your receipt, as well as additional instructions and information about you account and how to manage your Products will support your e-mail confirmation that the sale is completed and further instructions to access your account GoDaddy.com.

I hope this is helpful.

Domain names - how to choose a good domain name.

Many website owners regret the domain name they registered for their online business because they didn't put much thought into it. Every time someone types it into their browser you want them to easily remember it.

Benefits of choosing a good domain name

Branding

If you think of Nike or Google you immediately understand how using your business name in your domain helps brand your business. Your domain name can even be your business name if you're lucky enough to still find a.com business name.

Professional web address

Sometimes online business owners try to save money by using a free service for their online business such as getting a free blog at WordPress or Blogger. If the company disappears so will your web address and all its content. Registering a real domain name shows visitors you're serious about running a professional online business and are not doing it for the short term. Even if you change web hosting companies you can still keep your own domain name.

Professional email addresses

Using a gmail, AOL, or Yahoo email address for your online business doesn't project a professional image. Many of these addresses are automatically blocked or not accepted by online professionals because they are often used for sending spam emails that can't be tracked.

If you register a real domain name you can include it in your email address. This makes it easy for your visitors to identify where it it coming from and which business it belongs to.

How to choose a good domain name

A good domain name is one that clearly reflects your business, is easy to spell and remember.

1. Business name

My web design business is named iSiteBuild dot com so I registered that domain name to brand it. Try to do the same for your own online business. If the name is not available try keywords associated with your business.

2. Keywords related to your business

Search for a domain name that identifies your business keywords. For example if you're selling red widgets, register redwidgets dot com. If the obvious keywords are already taken research other keywords related to your business and use them instead.

3. Domain extensions

Most.com names may already be taken so you'll have to get creative e.g. use dashes between the words (red-widgets), numbers (1redwidget), adding extra words (theredwidget) or try different suffixes (.net,.org,.info,.us,.biz)

4. Easy to remember

Has someone ever given you a domain name that was impossible to remember? It may have been too long or had several dashes or numbers in it. Get a domain name that can easily be passed on to others. It will stick in their minds without having to write it down on paper.

5. Keep it short

The shorter the name the easier it is to spell and remember. It will also be easier to fit on business cards and other off line stationary.

6. Hyphenated domain names

If you can't find a domain name that matches your business, register one that has a hyphen e.g. I registered ihost-websites dot com because ihostwebsites dot com was already taken. It will contribute to your search engine rankings because every time someone links to your website the main keywords will be included in your domain name.

7. Purchase an already registered domain name

There are people whose business is buying and selling domain names. For example the person who first registered business dot com could now sell it now for thousands of dollars. If you are willing to pay for a domain name you've set your heart on, check if it's for sale and how much it costs. Sometimes they are not very expensive.

8. Expired domain names

Sometimes people purchase domain names but never do anything with them because they haven't had time to Development or lack of interest. First check if the verified it registration for whois.com contact the owner if they are willing to sell it. .. Maybe you are lucky.

Over a domain Blues.

Choosing the right domain name can make or break a new website. If your original domain name is not available, do not worry or get the blues. There are plenty of other domain names out there waiting for you. A few tips will help you choose wisely and well.

So, you have designed the perfect web site and come up with a brilliant domain name to seal the deal. Skipping over to the registration site, you gleefully key in your clever name. And then, the devastation begins.

The domain name is taken; taken with an ending of.com,.net and even.org. You cannot have the domain name of your dreams because some cyber-stranger got to it first. The blues trickle down into your once hopeful heart and whisper that they are here to stay. There are a few tips that will help you to choose your domain name wisely and well.

Get Over It and Move On

So you cannot have your first choice when it comes to domain names, so what! It is time to get over your blues and get busy coming up with an even better name. This is not the end of the world! In fact, it is a great opportunity to break out of your mould and come up with a domain name that will attract new prospective clients and click through traffic. So cheer up and get to it, there are plenty of other domain names out there just waiting to be discovered.

Obvious is Better than Clever

The best domain names are those that encapsulate the essence of the service, product or information you are providing on your website. For instance, if your website provides music reviews, a website domain name entitled "musicreviews.com" would be the perfect choice.

If that isn't available, perhaps "goodmusicreviews.com" or something along those lines would work nicely. Basically, you need to choose a domain name that web browsers within your niche will relate to and remember.

Make is Simple

Using hyphens (music-reviews.com) and extraneous dots (mu.sic.reviews.com) in your domain name. The more straightforward you can make your website domain name, the easier it will be for your visitors to enter correctly into their URL bar. Complicated domain names may be clever but they increase the margin of error for web browsers, which may send your viewers over to your competition's website.

Make it Short and Sweet

Lengthy domain names are quickly forgotten but short domain names are easy to remember and type with great accuracy. When it comes time to create your domain name, use as few characters as is humanly possible with still having your message come across.

Get an Expired Domain Name

Certain sites on the internet allow you to search for old domain names within your niche that have recently expired. Purchasing one of these domain names can be beneficial on many different levels. First, search engines often give more weight to websites that have been registered with the same domain name for a long period.

This is likely to get your website a higher search engine ranking, which will drive more Visitors to your site. Second, you can be moving some additional people to fold your used to visit old expired only the third and last there are some creative and memorable domain name in the series before, you may be thinking not significantly different.

Best Domain Registrars For 2009

A while back I wrote an article about the first three Registrars at this time. Since then much has changed. New players, new features and lower prices to name a few.

Let's recap what the Chancellor did not:

1st Hold the master "database" of domain names on the Internet.

2nd They allow anyone to keep a domain name.

3rd The registration record is held by the basic information about your site. (IP address, e-mail server,etc..)

The biggest names in Registrars are now:

* Godaddy.com

* Yahoo.com

* Register.com

* NetworkSolutions.com

We take a quick look at each service and compare the properties.

Godaddy.com
They are the low-cost leader. For about $ 10/yr. They retain a single domain name. For a few dollars more, you can get private domain registration or additional applications (. Info,. Tv,. NET, etc. ..). Navigating the sitecan be a bit difficult because it is very confusing. However, they have the best value and the management functions for the domain.

Yahoo.com
They have raised their prices over the past two years. 1 years domain registration is now $ 15/yr. (Used to be $ 10). The user interface is very easy to navigate, but you need a Yahoo e-mail to log on to the domain manager.

Register.com
Not sure why they charge $ 34.99/yr. for domain reservations. However, they have a very clean interface and the same functions as GoDaddy.

NetworkSolutions.com
They are the original registrar. It all started with them. However, they have not renewed past its infancy and needs to feel the pain. Your e-mail servers have constant questions, and they are difficult to know if you call they are dealing.

Our recommendation for 2009 is godaddy.com.
